Not even the heavy downpour could disperse the crowd of party supporters and townspeople on that historic day. They danced the more, even in their wet dresses, chanting the slogan of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and firing salvos at the government and the ruling party. To underscore the seriousness of the matter, the people deliberately refused to use umbrella for cover. To them, the torn umbrella of the PDP amounted to wasted hope and expectation.

The event was the defection of the former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Chief Gbadegesin Adedeji, and his followers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to ACN. Senators yesterday blocked President Goodluck Jonathan's bid to amend the Electoral Act 2010.
The amendment would have paved the way for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to fix the sequence of elections.

The other leg of the bill sought to give the leadership of parties the power to list political appointees and their aides as delegates, who can vote at party primaries.

Senators were charged when the bill was read at plenary by Majority Leader Teslim Folarin. They kept shouting no! no! no! even when Folarin was still on his feet.
