The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Auchi, Bishop Gabriel Dunia has decried the congestion in the camps of the flood displaced persons in Etsako Central and Etsako East local government areas of Edo.

The Bishop, who went round the camps on Monday to distribute relief materials to the displaced, noted that the crowded nature of the camps was not dignifying for the people.

While commending the efforts so far made by the federal, state and local governments in evacuating the people, He appealed to them to work on decongesting the camps to provide some comfort to the displaced persons.

Dunia also appealed to governments at all levels to be proactive in responding to environmental warnings to prevent monumental destruction such as was being witnessed.

The bishop said that the relief items donated by the Auchi Catholic Diocese was aimed at providing succour to the displaced.

"This is meant to temporarily settle you; we will now go back and work on a long-term solution.

"We quite understand how you feel; when one considers that you have been forced out of your homes by natural disaster, that you have no industry (farm) where you take care of your household."

He, however, caution them not to think of rushing back home until they were given the go ahead.

The donation included food items, toiletries, clothes and cash. (NAN)
