Microsoft has officially unveiled a version of Skype optimized for the new operating system, complete with a visual redesign to fit the touch friendly interface and OS-level integration making it easy to see new messages and new calls.

It's not just the new look and the touch feeling, but coming along are also numerous improvements some of which include the ability to snap Skype to the left or right of their screen, as one take a look at something else. Adding contacts to the favorites screen where they are displayed with large tiles is one fascinating feature that many will find intresting. Well, an integrated Windows 8 built-in People app, allowing you to start calls from the operating system's address book is also among the new developments.

There is one feature though that won't be ready at launch and that is group video chat, but is expected soon this fall.
