Talks under way on possible Gaza truce as Secretary Clinton lands in Israel

A possible ceasefire may come this evening between Hamas and Israel, but civilians living in Gaza are still in the midst of violence and today were given orders to evacuate. NBC's John Ray reports. By NBC News staff and wire reportsUpdated at 4:20 p.m. ET: Following her arrival in Israel, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton reiterated at a press conference that America's commitment to Israel's security is "rock solid," adding that the goal of the ongoing truce negotiations must be a durable outcome that promotes regional  stability.

Emphasizing that attacks from Gaza into Israel must stop, Clinton said there are no substitutes for security and a just and lasting peace, offering her condolences for those lost in the violence.

"Our hearts break for the loss of every civilian, Israeli and Palestinian, and for all those who have been wounded and are living in fear and danger," she said.
