NGGT A’Ibom: Maku reaffirms FG’s commitment to empower Judiciary for quality service delivery.

                        To empower Legal Officers and Judges in delivering well researched judgments on issues brought before them as well as other legal services, facilities that would ease legal administration in the nation's courts must be put in place, Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku insists.

He says this is the reason Federal Government is building and equipping Federal High Courts across the country.

Speaking at the Federal High Court in Uyo during an inspection by members of the National Good Governance Tour, the Minister observed that "In the past there was always constraint in terms of space. Sometimes there were not sufficient court spaces".

In his words: "Facilities are important, environment is important for legal officers, for judges to deliver well researched judgments on issues brought before them".

He said "The Judiciary is a very, very crucial Arm of Government. It is the leveler for everybody. It is the one that ensures the enforcement of laws administration.

"I believe that what the Federal Government has been doing by building Federal High Courts across the country is to create space and conducive environment for the administration of justice. Social Equity, Social Justice, Legal Justice go together in several ways. So without proper judicial administration it is not possible for you to administer justice.

"This is just an example of what the Judiciary is doing all over the country. We are happy with what we have seen.

Mr. Maku therefore congratulated the Judiciary in Akwa Ibom State for commissioning the Federal High Court Complex in Uyo.

Briefing the Team on behalf of the Registrar, an Administration Officer of the Court said the building was commissioned in September 2012. She said all the judges in the country including the Chief Justice of the Federation had attended a conference held at the court.

She said the building consists of 2 Court Rooms with two judges posted to the division while the ground floor has well furnished offices for administrative work in addition to other sections.

Fielding questions from members of the Team, the representative of the Registrar said the Court was well positioned to help in achieving justice for the less privileged in society.

"The judges we have on ground are very conscientious. They do their job and they are always here. They sit when they have to. They don't unnecessarily prolong a case, they give judgment as at when due and they have a listening ear. So I do believe the poor man will get justice here", she said.

The Court also has internet facilities.
