My dear Students,

Gentlemen of the Press,

Ladies and Gentlemen

I am highly delighted to be here today to preside over one of the traditions of tertiary institutions all over the world, the Matriculation Ceremony, which involves oath-taking with a view to formally admitting new students to the ethics, norms and virtues of the Ivory Towers. It is indeed a way of accepting and incorporating fresh students who have subscribed to the matriculation oath into the community of intellectuals such as ours. I wish to congratulate the matriculated students on this special occasion which today marks your full acceptance into the membership of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti. You are very fortunate to be part of the few lucky ones who were admitted out of many candidates who scrambled for admission into this citadel of learning.

The secret of our success lies on our strong desire to always maintain high academic standards and moral probity. Therefore, for you to fit in as de jour members of this academic community, you are expected to abide by the provisions of the oath you have just sworn to. For the avoidance of doubt, you should not engage in any activity that can bring your names and that of the University into disrepute. At this juncture, let me emphasize that under no circumstance should you be involved in examination malpractice, cultism, drug abuse and other anti-social behaviour that may likely jeopardize your studentship in the University.

Let me warn you also that the Matriculation Oath, to which you have just subscribed, places a burden of good behavior on you. This implies that henceforth, your behavior will constantly be monitored to assess your suitability for the degree of our University. Thus, it becomes imperative on you to justify your being admitted into the University. To whom much is given, definitely, much is expected.

As new members of the EKSU family, you should work assiduously to justify the dreams of the founding fathers by playing responsible roles in contributing to the human development needs of our country. To be able to do this, you need moral rejuvenation, academic alertness, self-discipline and capacity to resist negative peer influence. The challenges ahead of you are enormous, and you are expected to be guided by the fear of God. We shall not hesitate to expel any student whose behavior does not conform to acceptable norms of our University. It is my prayer, however, that God will assist you to surmount all odds, and scale all hurdles on your path to success.

You are encouraged to find time to visit your University in Ado-Ekiti at any moment to see the level of development currently taking place. All efforts are geared towards making the teaching-learning environment conducive for both staff and students. We would continue to do our best to better your lots. On your own part, you should reciprocate our lofty gestures by operating within the rules and regulations of the University.

Again, I congratulate you all, your parents, guardians, and well wishers. I also seize this opportunity to wish you successful fulfillment of your academic pursuit in the University. It is my sincere hope that you will work very hard and perform your lawful activities diligently in the University so that I would be able to congratulate you again on convocation.

Thank you and God Bless
