Super Eagles Return Possible For Odemwingie

Forward, Peter Odemwingie will play for African champions, Nigeria again according to the team's psychologist, Robinson Okosun.

Odemwingie reportedly drew the ire of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and national team head coach, Stephen Keshi following his outburst on the social networking website, Twitter after he was omitted from the Super Eagles squad that went on to win the 2013 Afcon in South Africa.

Okosun, an integral member of the Super Eagles backroom staff however believes the door is still open to Odemwingie to make a shock return to the national team.

"I have spoken to (Stephen) Keshi about this and his answer is always the same; Odemwingie and all other Nigerian players, wherever they may play their football are eligible to play for the national team.

The door is very open for him to make a return," Okosun said.

Okosun then revealed that he has kept the communication channel open with the player whom he speaks to on a regular basis.

"I speak to him regularly and what I can say is that players have their on and off season. This obviously is an off season for the player.

"What he needs at this point is support from all Nigerians. A lot of people fail to realise that he may be passing through family or personal issues.

"He is passing through a phase and we must support him and I am sure he will pass through this phase," said Okosun.

The 31-year-old has recently hogged the headlines for all the wrong reasons following a tumultuous last four months; the nadir which came in the shape of a £75,000 fine as punishment from West Bromwich Albion for driving to QPR amid failed deadline day bid to escape West Brom.

He was also publicly criticised by the WBA gaffer, Steve Clarke this week as the former Chelsea assistant manager declared that he was "fed up" with the Nigerian.

Okosun however insists that Odemwingie is neither a "disruptive influence" nor a troublesome character.

"I laugh when people say he is troublesome. He is not. I know him very well having worked with him closely in the national team and also based on the relationship I enjoy with him on a personal level.

"This is just a phase. I am a professional psychologist and I am sure he will bounce back from this," he submitted.
