The role: Have responsibility for the safety and operations of the power plant, the switchyard and related control structures.

Functions:

•   Maintain power plant operating logs and prepare power generation and transmission equipment operating reports

•   Operate power plant auxiliary systems such as telephone and radio communication systems, station battery, lighting systems, HVAC systems etc

•   Monitor power plant equipment and indicators to evaluate performance or detect problems

•   Take regulatory action based on readings from charts, meters and gauges at established intervals

•   Examine and test electrical power distribution machinery and equipment using appropriate testing tools

•   Inspect records or log book entries and communicate with relevant plant personnel to assess equipment performance

•   Communicate with systems operators to regulate and coordinate line voltages and transmission loads and frequencies

•   Monitor and control switchboard gauges to determine that electrical power distribution meets specifications

•   Control generator output to match the phase, frequency, or voltage of electricity supplied to panels

•   Receive outage calls and request necessary personnel during power outages or emergencies

•   Perform routine equipment maintenance

Requirements:

•   Minimum of OND in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

•   Minimum of 5 years experience in power plant or similar operation

•   Training in Industrial Safety and Fire-fighting is an added advantage
