The role: Responsible for the development of physical layout of equipment, protection and control logic, elementary and wiring diagrams. They are also responsible for the specifications and procurement of engineering equipment; and for the development of design scope and cost estimates.

Functions:

•   Provide technical and supervisory support in the design of the substation and various substation systems

•   Prepare equipment specifications, proposal evaluations and requisitions

•   Develop specifications and cost estimates for transmission and substation facilities

•   Negotiate or provide guidance for negotiating transmission and substation design construction contracts

•   Select and manage engineering and construction consultants, contractors and suppliers of equipment for transmission and substation facilities

•   Coordinate equipment delivery and design engineering in line with construction schedules

•   Monitor the construction of the substation and various electrical systems to ensure conformity  with plans and specifications

•   Test materials, equipments and systems as required

•   Undertake complex engineering calculations to ensure safety and performance of equipment and systems

•   Undertake research, prepare reports and feasibility studies to support strategic decision making

•   Responsible for budget, manpower requirements and relevant controls associated with the area of responsibility

•   Organize, supervise and develop assigned staff

Role Requirements:

•   Minimum of a 1st degree in Electrical Engineering

•   Minimum of 5 years electrical engineering experience

•   Experience in Power Generation and Substation design is preferable

•   Prior utility experience is an added advantage

•   Knowledge of applicable standards and safety codes
