PDP Convention begins Today

PEOPLES Democratic Party (PDP) will kick off preparations for its national convention today with the election of three ad-hoc ward delegates nationwide



Ahead of the exercise, the National Secretariat of the party has called on the state and local chapters to maintain peace and decorum in the interest of the party.

According to the party guidelines, the screening of National Assembly aspirants by committees set up by the state branches of the party will follow tomorrow and Thursday..

On Friday, petitions arising the exercise will be entertained by the PDP Screening Appeal Committees.

Primaries for the House of Assembly aspirants would hold on Monday, January 3, to be followed by the shadow poll for the House of Representatives hopefuls.

On Thursday, January 6, senatorial primaries would hold nationwide in the ruling party.

The time-table also stated that Appeal Committees set up entertain complaints from National Assembly aspirants would sit the next day.

On Saturday, January 8, the party will elect national delegates to the national convention.

The following day, governorship primaries would hold nationwide.

On January 11, the party will screen presidential aspirants while the PDP Screening Appeal committee will sit to entertain complaints arising from the exercise the following day.

The guidelines also stated that a special national convention for presidential primaries will take place on January 13.

The party yesterday directed that fresh congresses be held in Enugu and Oyo States to elect Party Executives at the Ward, Local Government and State levels from the 29th to 31st December, 2010.

The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Prof. Rufai Ahmed Alkali in a statement in Abuja said: "The National Working committee of the Peoples Democratic Party at its emergency meeting held today at the National Secretariat considered urgent Party matters and arrived at the following resolutions.

"The National Working Committee after due consultations directed that fresh congresses be held in Enugu and Oyo States to elect Party Executives at the Ward, Local Government and State levels from the 29th to 31st December, 2010.

"The NWC also directed that screening of all National Assembly aspirants in Oyo and Enugu States be held at the National Secretariat of the PDP on the 29th and 30th of December, 2010.

"Party members in the affected States are advised to strictly comply with these directives and give their maximum cooperation to officers mandated to handle the various exercises."
