Ogun State - Ogun youths charged to support developmental projects

Youths in Ogun State need to contribute their quota to developmental drives of the State Government as no meaningful socio-economic growth can be recorded without the collaborative efforts of all and sundry. The youths can do this by buying into vision of the government as it relates to the mission to rebuild, offer suggestions, ideas, constructive criticism, fulfillment of their civic responsibilities and generally be agents of change. Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Taiwo Adeoluwa gave this charge in Abeokuta while delivering a paper titled “Understanding Government rebuilding Policy” at the maiden lecture of the State chapter of the National Council of Nigerian Youths (NCYN).Adeoluwa explained that at inception, the Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led administration inherited a State where virtually all sectors were in precarious conditions, but quickly settled down for the business of rebuilding by injecting massive funds into the education, agriculture and infrastructural sectors among others to reposition them and restore lost glory.He however pointed out that government alone could not achieve all its goals without the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders particularly the youths who have possess vigour, energy and intellectual capabilities to make meaningful contribution to the mission to rebuild the State.“You have a bigger responsibility to partner with the team leader and change agent- the Governor, to bring the vision into fruition. We are desperate to create a new Ogun State that you all will be proud of. As youths, you have the energy, the drive and the intellect. You are welcome to support and encourage government with ideas, and genuine, constructive criticisms to make changes happen. You need to spread the message of hope and of a new Ogun State to people in the nooks and crannies of our State”, he urged.Also delivering a paper titled “The Role of Ogun State Youths in the Rebuilding Process”, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Barrister Yusuph Olaniyonu noted that youths constitute over 70% of the State’s population, adding that their potentials must be positively harnessed to achieve development and greatness.Represented by the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics of the Ministry, Mr. Femi Kusimo, Olaniyonu stated that the State Government’s five cardinal programmes, particularly on education, health infrastructural growth and employment generation focused more on youth development, adding that it is only natural that as the beneficiaries, they must have a stake in monitoring and protecting the projects as they remain their heritage.     He however frowned at the lack of opportunity, good mentorship and needed support which according to him remained stumbling blocks to youth development in recent years. He urged opinion leaders at all levels to constructively engage the youths in the political process and harness their energy for national development.“The youths have a role to play here by ensuring that these facilities are protected, our leaders should device means to harness and utilize the energy, creativity and passion of the youths for national development. Also, political leaders must engage the youths constructively in the political process. They should channel State resources into harnessing and utilizing the energy and passion of the youth into positive, productive and creative ventures” Olaniyonu submitted.Welcoming guests earlier, Chairman of the NYCN in the State, Comrade Adeniyi Adenekan stated that the event was organized to serve as a forum for interaction and stock taking by government and ascertain the roles and responsibilities of the youths in the current dispensation.He charged his members not to rest on their oars with regard to ensuring accountability from those at the helms of affairs, urging them to continuously play positive roles and assist government in all ways possible to achieve success in its developmental drive.
