BELGRADE, Serbia -- Thirteen people were killed Tuesday when a man went on a shooting spree in a village near Belgrade, according to a Serbian health official.

Belgrade emergency hospital spokeswoman Nada Macura said the 60-year-old man identified only as Ljubisa B. used a gun to kill six men, six women and a child. The motive for the shooting was not immediately given.

Macura said the man then tried to kill himself and his wife, who both remain severely injured. Another person was also injured.

The apparently random killings happened in the village of Velika Ivanca, some 30 miles southeast of Belgrade.

Police are investigating.
