The Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has urged professionals from the State to come home and participate in politics, warning that failure to do this might leave the affairs of their tomorrow in the hands of mediocre-minded politicians.

He made this call on Tuesday at a Jericho Businessmen School programme held at the Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos, in honour of five sons of the State who had distinguished themselves in their chosen careers.

According to the Governor, if the professionals were frightened off the call by the "advertised mudslinging and assassination of characters" which seemed to be the preoccupation of the political class, they would be leaving their affairs and that of their generations to come in the hands of those who may tinker with their destinies.

"I have grown thick skin to the machinations of those who think character assassination would stop us on the path of carving a new Oyo State. That should also be your attitude to serving your people. If we are all afraid of mudslinging and petty lies heaped on us by political adversaries, posterity will not forgive us for failing to act when our actions are needed most," he told the audience.

While promising to politically mentor any one of them who signified intention to join the political train ahead of the 2015 elections, the Governor said that, having distinguished themselves in their chosen careers in virtually all human endeavours, the greatest icing on the cake for them should be service to their fatherland which he said was priceless.

The Governor also used the occasion to inform members of the Club of all the developmental milestones which his administration had undertaken in its 23-month lifespan, which he said included the dualization of five major roads in the State capital, as well as major entry points throughout the zones, a massive urban renewal of the State capital, as well as environmental sanitation.

The Governor promised the business men that his government would have undertaken more construction efforts in the State but for fear of creating a major traffic bottleneck that may impede traffic flow, while promising that when the current set of roads were completed, Government would embark on further dualization of roads and construction of more fly-over bridges in the State.

In his own remarks, President of the Club, Alhaji Remi Bello, said the professionals from the State and the diaspora would, of necessity, heed the clarion call of the Governor to come home and participate in politics, stating that the Governor had shown a path to all that the task of rebuilding a State from ruins was possible with determination.

Also present at the function where eminent sons of the State like the Executive Director (Finance) of the First Bank, Mr. Bayo Adelabu, Messrs. Yemi Ejidiran, Bayo Olugbemi, Oyesola Oyekunle and Kola Oladimeji were honoured, were President of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chief Bayo Oyero, former Minister for Commerce and Industries, Chief (Mrs.) Nike Akande, Chief Goodie Ibru, among others.
