NSC to reconsider funding Federal Public Service Games.

                         The National Sports Commission (NSC) may reconsider its decision to stop offering grants to Federation of Public Service Games (FEPSGA).

The Acting Director-General of the Commission, Alhaji Mustapha Mohammed dropped the hint on Tuesday, 16th April, 2013 when the FEPSGA executive committee paid him a courtesy call in his office.

The acting DG said the Commission will look into reasons why funding to the body was initially stopped with a view to finding a lasting solution to the stoppage.

"I can assure you; we will look into the records and see why it (grant) was discontinued. I know it was done before; we were giving subvention to the body. The reason why it was stopped, I cannot tell for now.  I will go back and find out."

While acknowledging the importance of FEPSGA, the acting DG noted that "One of the key performance indicators for improving the quality of life of Nigerians through sports is reflected in the number of Nigerians that participate in sports for recreation; incidentally FEPSGA is carrying out this objective through its monthly 'walking, jogging' activity".

He therefore enjoined FEPSGA to continue with its programmes which he said have really helped civil servants in the country keep fit over the years.

Earlier, the President of FEPSGA, Victor Orji had complained about the challenge of lack of fund being faced by the Association in carrying out its programmes since the NSC withdrew its grants.

While admitting that the withdrawal of funding by the Commission may not have been unconnected with the attitude of the past executives, he insisted that the present leadership was poised to toe the right path to ensure that prudence, transparency and accountability remains its watchword.
