Ogun State - Contribute meaningfully to societal growth, student leaders charged

Students of tertiary institutions in Ogun State have been challenged to make judicious use of their God-given talents towards making meaningful contributions to the overall socio-economic and political development of the State.     Chairman of the State’s Teaching Service Commission, Ms. Olubukunola Onabanjo threw this challenge in Abeokuta while hosting the Executive members of the State Chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).     Ms. Onabanjo who spoke through the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Mr. Ayodele Koleade reminded them that the world over, history had recorded exploits of students who had contributed to the development of their respective communities and countries and urged them to take a cue.  The TESCOM boss tasked them to be agents of positive change by being good students and lend necessary support to the developmental programmes of the State Government as encapsulated in the five cardinal programmes.     “The various developmental projects of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led-administration such as building of model schools, reconstruction of roads, improved agricultural production, efficient health care delivery, employment generation amongst others needed to be reciprocated with good behaviour to spur the government to do more” she noted.     Speaking further, Ms. Onabanjo said “all the various works being carried out by this government need to be appreciated, As you can see, its urban renewal programme has given our major cities a new look, the affordable and qualitative education programme has given birth to construction of model schools, illegal fees had been abolished, all these among others had increased the Higher Education Potentials index in our secondary schools”     She also charged them to give maximum attention to their academic works and shun all acts and tendencies that could jeopardise their future ambitions, adding that if aggrieved on any issue, they should channel their grievances and views to the authorities in a civil and acceptable manner.     Earlier in his address, the acting Chairman of NANS in the State, Comrade Olasunkanmi Adekunle acknowledged the giant strides of the State Government towards repositioning the education sector, adding that the steps had rubbed off positively on the management and administration of schools.
