President Goodluck Jonathan visited the Victims of Ogun and Lagos Floods and below is his comments on Facebook page:

Goodluck Jonathan was briefed by both Governors Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State and Raji Fashola of Lagos state on how the Federal Government can assist them in resolving the perennial flooding.

I have just returned from visiting victims of the floods in Lagos and Ogun state to see first hand the extent of the damage caused by the deluge and find out what the urgent needs are so the Federal Government can offer assistance. Earlier, I had directed the relief agencies under Federal control to do what is needful in the immediate while we look at long term solutions to possibly prevent recurrences. I told the victims of the flood that the Federal Government will support them by way of further assistance and this will be channelled through the State Governments of the affected areas. In finding solutions, we will examine all the suggestions made by leading experts including urban and regional planners, environmentalists and scientists among others. It is our resolve that this reoccurring problem which has caused so much pain to our citizens is eventually brought to end.

I was briefed by both the governors of Lagos and Ogun states as well as the Obas and Baale of the communities affected and I believe we are moving in the right direction. Even as I assured the governors of Lagos and Ogun states in private, I also want to assure you all that the Federal Government under my leadership will not consider party affiliations in coming to the aid of states in which emergencies and disasters have occurred. We are all in this together and it is one for all and all for one.
