Retired Judge urged Magistrates to cultivate the habit of researching.

                        Magistrates and Presidents of Area Customary Courts in the country have been advised to cultivate the habit of research aimed at assisting them write good judgments.

Justice Roland Amaize, a retired High Court Judge in Edo State, gave the advice in a speech delivered at a seminar for Judges of the lower bench and other staff of the State's judiciary by the organized Judicial Service Commission in Benin City .

The highly respected Justice whose paper focused on "Judgment writing, procedures and discipline at the lower bench", urged the Magistrates and Presidents of Area Customary Courts to avoid undue interference and influence in the course of dispensing justice.  "Judgment must meet certain minimum standard in order to stand the test of time," he said.

He encouraged the participants to have a mastery of English language as their judgments would be read by all and sundry, including non-lawyers.

Justice Amaize enlightened that the court process, filed evidence and submissions of counsels to all parties in any case must be placed side by side in order to arrive at a good judgment.
