Ogun State - Ogun takes yet another step to boost Recreational Activities

Sports development in Ogun State today received yet another boost as the State Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Funturf International Under the agreement, Funturf International is billed to construct two 5-a-side astro turf pitches as well as the first of its kind children’s fun factory at the M.K.O. Abiola International stadium, Abeokuta.   Speaking at the ceremony, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Gbenga Otenuga said the project was another testimony to the importance which the State Government attached to sports development and recreational activities. According to him, the project tagged “Legacy Project” is a 10-year Build, Finance Operate and Transfer (BFOT) arrangement and would contribute immensely to the sports development as it would have facilities to enable individuals, sports lovers and families to mix sports with fun. He stated that the huge investment of the State Government in sports development had been yielding dividends, pointing out that currently among others, the State is the national primary school football champion, cricket champion at school, intermediate and senior levels and had produced Olympians for the country in athletics, boxing, basketball and table tennis.      Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on Public-Private Partnership, Dr. Tunde Sodade noted that apart from creating a platform for recreation healthy living, the project would also generate income for the government and employment for some youths. On her part, the Senior Special Assistant on Trade and Investment, Mrs. Nike Aboderin enthused that the facilities would meet the need of fun seekers and urged the partner to provide high quality facilities in line with “Ogun Standard”.   Responding, the managing director of Funturf International Mr. Olumide Mabawonku assured of executing a quality job that would meet the expectation of both partners, promising that it would be completed within 90 days. The State Government had earlier this year held talks with an Italy based sports equipment making company, Mondor International with a view to re-laying and re-surfacing tracks and turfs of the basketball pitch among others
