Ekiti State - NGF Laud Ekiti And Anambra Over Completion Of Peer Review Exercise

Ekiti and Anambra states have been acknowledged at the on-going 2nd Nigeria Governors' Forum (South West) Governance Share Fair in Lagos as the only two states in the federation that have so far completed the Peer Review Exercise.

Speaking at the event taking place at the Hotel Bellissimo Lagos Lekki the Director General of the NGF, Mr Bayo Okauru noted that the Governance Share Fair is set to create a conducive space for peer learning among states through the sharing of good practices, showcasing of reform, achievements and to develop areas of collaboration and further networking.

He noted that the Forum has overtimes become more focused on priorities calculated to reduce poverty, enhance development and create better connection between government and the citizenry.

The Six Governors in the South Western Zones who were represented at the occasion delivered goodwill messages in which they recognised the need for the States in the region to share information among one another in order to synergise development across the States and deliver good governance to their people.

The Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi represented by the Commissioner for Integration and Intergovernmental Affairs, Hon Funminiyi Afuye noted that the forum will afford the States to learn what is working in service delivery and good governance which will be beneficial to individual states.

He noted that there is the need for regional integration and exchange of Ideas to foster integration at a higher level.

Also speaking at the event, the Ekiti State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mr Tayo Ekundayo noted that Ekiti State has been able to complete the review exercise following the monumental achievements of the current administration under the leadership of Dr Kayode Fayemi.

In a lecture titled Governance Matters, the National Programme Manager of the State Partnership for Accountability, Responsiveness and Capability (SPARC), Mr Joe Abbah noted that good governance cannot be guaranteed where corruption thrives.

He noted that good governance will result in poverty reduction, equitable economic growth, reduction of unemployment and improvement in human capital, health, Education and infrastructure.

Speaking, the South West Regional Coordinator of DFID, Dr Sina Fagbenro-Byron reiterated the efforts of DFID towards reduction in poverty, level of corruption and delivering of good governance in the South Western states.

He enjoined the states in the geo political zone to team up and ensure regional integration that will lead to multidimensional achievements and delivery of vibrant and robust governance.

Representatives of the six states made presentations on their achievements in different sectors with a view to sharing information that would be beneficial to one another.
