No plan to impeach Amaechi, Rivers PDP insists

The new Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rivers State, Felix Obuah, has insisted that there was no time the party thought of impeaching the state Governor, Chibuike Amaechi. He also said Rivers State was PDP and would remain a PDP state, adding that there was no faction of the party in the state.

The party chairman made the statement last Saturday during the thanksgiving service and dedication of the executive council members at the Port Harcourt Club, in the state capital. Obuah, in his address, reiterated that his administration was concerned about achieving peace by reconciling aggrieved party members. He added that blackmail and hiring of protesters would not help governance in the state.

"We have not at any time or anywhere dreamt of impeaching the governor. That is not our mission. We want to bring everybody together and move the state forward. "Rivers State has been PDP state since 1999 and will remain PDP state. Nobody, no group of people can change Rivers from being a PDP state. PDP will still remain the PDP you know. "Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State is not factionalized. We are one great party in the state. What is being factionalized are individuals who are in disagreement, which is what politics is al about," he said. He pointed out that whenever impunity in government was questioned, those who wanted to share Rivers State money blackmailed party members and stakeholders.

"There is no need heating up the polity with hired demonstrators, false alarm and assassination allegation," he said. In his speech, the Minister of Education for State, Nyesom Wike, emphasized that the party must not compromise with any individual, saying the party was supreme before every member. Wike, who commended party supporters for their overwhelming attendance, urged Obuah-led party executive to carry everybody along and have forgiving spirit.

"One thing is paramount; power has returned to the original owners. And, the owners of this power are you and I. It is what you want that the party will do," he said. The minister added that every member of PDP should remain loyal to President Goodluck Jonathan because he was the leader of the party, assuring that Rivers people would cast their votes for him in 2015.
