EKSU denies increasing fee

Vice-Chancellor of the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Prof. Oladipo Aina, has denied the rumour of fee hike in  institution.

Aina at a forum on Saturday, said the university was still charging the same old tuition.

He explained that the university introduced the no-fee-no-lecture policy to compel some of the  students,  who he accused of diverting their fees to buying expensive phones and clothes to pay.

The policy was resisted by the students, who protested for two days before the university management hurriedly shut the school for two-week.

The vice-chancellor said the university was still following Governor Kayode Fayemi of October 16, 2010 directive that tuition fee be pegged at N50,000.00 per session.

He, however, explained that the extra sum was for field trips, identity card, health services, information and communication technology and laboratory.

Aina said the fee charged in the institution remained the least in the South-West.

Justifying the no-fee-no-lecture policy, the vice-chancellor said only 1,227 students had paid their fees as of May 2 but he revealed that a day after the policy was implemented, more than 5,000 students rushed to pay their fees.
