Abuja population will rise to 10m in 2018 –Minister

Population of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, will by 2018 rise from five million to 10 million.

The FCT Minister, Senator Bala Muhammed, who disclosed this while addressing the National Working Committee, NWC, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, at the Wadata House in Abuja, reassured the residents that the government was putting everything in place to contain the population explosion.

Muhammed also said the FCT Administration was in tune with the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan. He said the FCT had removed 12,728 illegal structures, while approved plans within the territory stood at 1,489.

The minister explained that in a bid to enhance descent transportation within the territory, 500 new taxis cabs would soon be distributed to commercial operators on hire purchase basis; adding that a new road would be constructed from Keffi to the Airport and Maramba to Mpape to reduce accidents. According to him, id direct foreign investment stands at N4.2 billion.

He disclosed that the FCTA was, in collaboration with the Canadians, planning a monorail system from Nyanyan axis which would carry people from Massaka to Abuja.
