THE Goodluck and Sambo Presidential Campaign Organisation has extended hands of fellowship to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who lost in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries on Thursday.

The team also urged Atiku to accept the outcome of the election.

It added that of the victory of the President at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) contest was a landmark in Nigeria's political development and indeed a defining moment for the country.

The group's Director of Media and Publicity,

Mr. Sully Abu, in a statement yesterday, said "rather than merely representing a repudiation of zoning, the regional divide on which his main opponent Alhaji Atiku Abubakar ran, President Jonathan's victory underscored the growing sophistication of the country's political culture and the strength of the country's unity.

He added that Jonathan's victory further underscored the fact that Nigerians do not want anyone, especially "self-arrogated persons to impose leaders on them under whatever guise or to constrict the nation's democratic space."

Abu singled out Jonathan victory over Atiku in his  home state of Adamawa) as well as scoring significant victories in such northern states as Plateau, Nasarawa, Gombe, Jigawa, Benue and Bauchi as an eye-opener.

Abu, however, congratulated Atiku for a spirited campaign, which he said helped to sharpen the political debate but noted that it tended "sometimes to degenerate into incivility and incitement on the part of the opposition."

Such a keen contest he said "can only help the development of the country's democracy."

He  urged Atiku "to quickly accept the hand of fellowship extended by President Goodluck Jonathan as he had said he would in order to contribute his own quota to overcome the massive challenges of development confronting the country."
