Ogun State - Min. Of Rural Development gives new lease of life to communities

 Barely six months after it was created, the Ministry of Rural Development in Ogun State has embarked on many projects to enhance living standard of dwellers in different rural communities of the State. These projects which include water, electrification and road rehabilitation were meant to impact directly on the living standard of rural dwellers and discourage rural urban drift.

Commissioner in charge of the Ministry for Rural Development Hon. Falilu Adebisi Sabitu made this declaration today in Abeokuta while addressing a press briefing on the activities of the Ministry as part of activities marking the second year anniversary of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led administration.

According to him, the Ministry had embarked on solar powered borehole water scheme to provide potable water for ten rural communities including Ikereku Olodi in Abeokuta North, Yewa Disu in Yewa North, Sigo Baido in Ewekoro, Lisa in Odeda, Eyin Oshun in Ijebu-North East, Jabata in Imeko Afon, Osunbudepo in Ijebu North, Fakale in Sagamu and Areago in Obafemi Owode Local Government areas among others.

He added that similar scheme had been extended two mechanic villages in the State capital, saying that it had also sunk two boreholes to provide adequate water needed to operate the mini power plant at Oke- Mosan near the State secretariat. Sabitu disclosed that already, the State Governor, Senator Amosun had given approval for the procurement of 2,000 pieces of ceramic filter pots to be distributed to all the 20 Local Government Areas of the State, saying that this would reduce 99.8 % of pathogens that lead to typhoid, dysentery, cholera and diarrhea.

On rural electrification, the Commissioner revealed that the Ministry had taken the delivery of 204 transformers and had completed arrangements to distribute and energize them in different rural communities in the State.
