Labour Party chairmanship candidate in Egor Local Government Area, of Edo State, Osaretin Omoghan, in the April 20 council poll has petitioned state LG election petitions tribunal, contesting the victory of the Action Congress of Nigeria candidate, Victor Enobakhare and alleging poll irregularities.

In a petition referenced EPT no. ED/LG/PET/11/13, the LP candidate, together with his running mate, Princewill Agbonkonkon, through their counsel, Eki Omo-Osagie, is also praying the tribunal to void the pollĀ  and order fresh election into the office of chairmanship and vice-chairmanship of Egor LGA.

The petitioners alleged that the elections in Egor LG was marred by "substantial irregularities, fraudulent malpractices and unlawful conduct", adding that "officers of the 3rd respondent (Edo State Independent Election Commission), returned resultsĀ  where there were no results sheets, ballot boxes and where no voting took place."

It stated, "No result of the election were declared at any polling unit or ward collation centre in the entire local government and as a result no summary of result from polling stations for election to the office of chairmanship has been issued by the 3rd respondent to the petitioners since the election was held."

Our Nigerian political parties never accept defeat in whatever situation. They just always feel the election was rigged. Rigging doesn't happen all the time.
