Football Kenya Federation (FKF) will ask the government to make June 5 a public holiday, to enable Kenyans attend the 2014 World Cup qualifier match between Kenya and Nigeria in large numbers, I can report.
.
FKF President, Sam Nyamwenya expressed fears that the match may fail to attract the maximum crowd as it falls on a working day.
.
There have been widespread calls in the East African country for the government to declare the match day a public holiday, so as to allow the fans offer massive support to the Harambee Stars.
.
Nyamweya said the federation had in fact thought along the same lines and will therefore request President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy, William Ruto, to declare the match day a public holiday.
.
"June 5 is a a Wednesday, a weekday, my fear is that many people may not get the chance to attend the match at Kasarani" he begins.
.
"We will make a request to the Government to consider declaring the match day a public holiday".
.
"In the event it's not possible, then employers should give workers the afternoon off to enable them attend the match which kicks off at 4pm" he said.
.
African Champions, Nigeria struggled to secure a share of the spoils when both teams clashed at the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar in March, with Italy based winger, Nnamdi Oduamadi scoring a late equalizer to ensure the game ended 1-1.
