Planning Commission reiterates commitment to coordinating national plans.

                        The Secretary to the National Planning Commission, Ntufam Fidel Ugbo, Esq., has reiterated the commitment of the Commission to coordinate all national plans for the overall national development of Nigeria

He stated this at a joint media briefing conducted by the National Planning Commission and the Chartered Project Management Institute of Nigeria (CPMIN), held at the National Planning Commission Office Complex, Abuja, Tuesday, 28th May, 2013.

The joint media briefing was addressed by the Secretary to the Commission who represented the Minister/Deputy Chairman, NPC and the President of the CPMIN, Architect Vincent Anwunli Iroroh.

CPMIN was reported to be planning a Seminar/ Stakeholders Forum for Project Managers as a way of sensitizing both the public and private sectors, about the role project management will play in the Transformation Agenda of the present administration.

The Commission's Secretary, also pointed out that, collaborating with CPMIN in this direction is significant, as the planned stakeholders' forum for project managers, will have a direct impact on the development planning of the Nigerian economy.

According to him, the CPMIN stakeholders' forum, will enlighten the project managers, provide solutions to emerging challenges in project management and also sensitize them on how they can be more proactive and productive in their various organisations.

"CPMIN will add value to government business.  If public projects are run like privately owned, it will add value.  They will be able to tell us when things are going right or wrong"; he said.

Pointing out further, Barrister Ugbo said that one of the mandates of the Commission is to coordinate all national plans; so, the collaboration with CPMIN is necessary as the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Department of the Commission will be involved in project management, and this will assist the Commission to produce sound and comprehensive report.

While speaking earlier, the President of CPMIN, Architect Vincent Anwuli Iroroh,  said that, CPMIN is an emerging professional institute incorporated by the Corporate Affairs Commission in 2009, as umbrella body for all project management practitioners and intending members in Nigeria, with the vision of enhancing professionalism and advancing excellence in project management with global best practices.

Architect Iroroh, stated also that, Nigeria, as a fast growing economy in Africa, with a huge population, a regulated and domesticated project management practice has an essential role to play in its infra structural growth.

"The Nation needs strong commitment in project management as a way of achieving better service delivery and infrastructure development"; he said.

He argued that, if the bill for the establishment of Council of Registered Project Managers of Nigeria (CORPMAN) is passed, it will help to fast track and enhance coordination of the nation's planned infrastructure for the public sector.
