Pillars, Heartland rumble in Abuja

The FIFA Goal Project Technical Pitch in Abuja will be turned into a theatre of war of sorts this afternoon as Kano Pillars and Heartland of Owerri extend their bitter rivalry in a rescheduled Week 8 league fixture. The rescheduled encounter became necessary following gun shots at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kofarmata, Kano when both sides met on the original day of the fixture forcing the match to be called off on security grounds.

To underline the importance of today's rematch, both title ambitious sides arrived at the Federal Capital Territory since Thursday. "Before our team left Kano for Abuja, the coaches and players were warned by the Chairman of the club, Mallam Abba Yola, to make sure that they return with the three points at stake from the match against Heartland" Media Officer of Kano Pillars, Idris Mailikawa disclosed.

"The team travelled with a brand new 34-seater Coaster bus as part of the motivation from the Kano State government. The match is very important to our title aspiration" Mailikawa stressed. But Heartland's Vice-captain and combat midfielder, Julius Ubido, said that Pillars will be disappointed at the end of the game. "Kano Pillars will be disappointed because we are not ready to drop a point in Saturday's (today) match. We shall give the match everything we have and by the grace of God we will come out victorious"

Ubido prayed. Heartland's captain, Chinedu Efugh, corroborated his assistant in a separate telephone chat stressing that victory in today's match was not negotiable. "The match against Pillars is very important to us and we also know that it means a lot to them. We have been motivated by the management to win the match and by God's grace we shall win to consolidate our lead on the log" the former Rangers captain said.
