The South-South caucus of the Peoples' Democratic Party has called for the review of the revenue formula to reflect true democracy where the interest of each segment of the federating unit will be equitably taken care of.

This was contained in a communique released after a meeting of the caucus of the party comprising the governors of the geopolitical zone, members of national assembly, speakers of the state house of assembly and party political leaders which was read by the chairmen of the South-South Governors' forum and Governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke.

They reasoned that the review of the revenue formula should be focused on achieving both vertical and horizontal development of all the sectors which will dispassionately address the distribution of fiscal policy to make the states more center of growth without undermining the power of the Federal government to external activities and affairs.

The governors noted the poor state of rural areas and called for the need to integrate them into the mainstream of development in accordance with the 1999 constitution to address issues bordering in funding and boundaries amongst others.

On the internal wrangling within the party, they urged its leadership at all levels of the party to rally round President Goodluck Jonathan to ensure good leadership as well as the goodness of the citizenry in order to build a strong and caring nation for all.

They pledged their support to the president in his effort to curb the activities of Boko Haram through the introduction of amnesty programme and said the interest of the victims must be taken into considerations and ensure the rule of law while condemning the actions and behaviors of some Nigerians to breed terrorism.

The governors sincerely thanked Nigerians for their support for President Goodluck Jonathan, who is the first president from the South-South geopolitical zone, the main stay of the nation's economy who should not be disturbed by detractors while congratulating chief Tony Annenih and Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom for their elections as chairman PDP Board of Trustees (BOT) and chairman PDP Governors' Forum respectively.
