Arc. Onelememen assures of improvement in road infrastructure as it records significant achievements.

                        The Minister of Works, Arc. Mike Oziegbe Onolememen has assured Nigerians that there would be tremendous improvement in road infrastructure in the country within the next two years, on account of steady commitment of the Goodluck Jonathan administration to the road sector.

The Minister, made the declaration at the 2013 Ministerial Platform, held in Abuja. He said, "Nigerian roads can no longer be described as "death-traps", due to remarkable improvement in the condition of the roads as a result of the unprecedented rehabilitation, construction and expansion of major arterial highways under the leadership of President Goodluck Jonathan".

He added that travel times on highways between originating points and destinations on most of these arterial routes have been drastically reduced.  He also stated that due to significant repairs of roads in the country, cost of vehicle maintenance has greatly reduced.

The Minister further stated that when the Jonathan administration assumed office, on May 29, 2011, a conscious decision was made to complete major road rehabilitation projects across the country. These included those that were either on-going or abandoned and s upscale maintenance work on federal roads.        He noted that the 'Operation Safe Passage' embarked upon by the Ministry in the fourth-quarter of 2012, has led to the recovery of failed portions of federal roads across the country, as evidenced in roads from Ilorin to Jebba, Lafia to Makudi, Aliade to Oturkpo and Oturkpo to 9th Mile.

Also, Enugu to Port Harcourt, Kano to Katsina, Lokoja to Okene, Okene to Benin, Lagos to Ibadan, and Odukpani to Itu, were among roads recovered, while many other roads have also been maintained across the length and breadth of the country.

Onolememen summed up, "Therefore, Nigerian roads have again truly become not only veritable economic arteries supporting economic growth, but also tool for national integration."
