Rainstorm destroys homes, farm in Katsina

Rainstorm has destroyed homes and farmlands worth millions of naira in Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The incident is coming few days after flooding in Danja and rainstorm at Batagarawa council areas that destroyed government and private properties.

Already, the state's Emergency Response Committee has visited the area to make assessment of damage and initiate measured to provide relief items to affected victims.

Speaking during the visit, the committee's chairman, Danjuma Alti, who is also Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, assured the victims of prompt government assistance to alleviate their condition.

Alti said, the Ministry of Environment, has toured the 34 council areas and enlightened them on ways to avert flooding.

He called on the affected council areas to ensure all drainages and waterways were cleared to allow for free flow of water, as well as drain ponds that pose threat to people.

He also called on the public to imbibe the culture of planting trees as way of checking desertification and erosion, and to desist from indiscriminate felling of trees.

While he urged for special prayers for divine intervention, Alti called on people to always comply with reports of possible heavy downpour from the Nigerian Meteorological agency, NIMET.
