A man described as a key terrorist who specializes in recruiting young men into the fold has reportedly been apprehended by Government troops in Maiduguri.

His arrest followed a tip off to Government troops who were carrying out a cordon and search operations.   The arrested man was also reported as being the one who "watches over the insurgents' armoury."

In a related development, a group of 5 insurgents, all Nigeriens were reported arrested when troops stormed their hideout at Mallam Fatori as they attempted to escape in two Toyota Cruiser Jeeps.

Additional reports from the Office of the Director of Defence Information also had it that abandoned vehicles, weapons and other items were being recovered in the camps of fleeing insurgents.   Among the recent finds were rifles, double barrel guns, various charms and amulets, machine guns as well as pairs of camouflage uniforms, bows and quiver and assorted rifle magazine.   Others are handset, walkie talkie, car number plates and some food items.

Of the abandoned vehicles recovered were a Golf car, a Honda car, a Customs Pickup Van, Honda (2003 Model) and a Volkswagen Monte Carlo car.

In another development, Police Stations were now being reopened in some parts of Borno State.

At Kirenowa, detachments of Police Anti-Terrorist unit have been deployed to complement security in the area.

Meanwhile, a team of local and foreign Journalists have commenced a tour of the operational areas of the Joint Task Force.  The tour organized by the Defence Headquarters was to ensure that the media have a first-hand information on the situation in the operational areas.
