Ondo Govt promises more support for National Youth Service Corps.

The Ondo State Government has once again expressed its commitment to ensure the success of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme in the State, as it also promised to continue to provide atmosphere conducive for corps members and maintain an effective partnership with the NYSC Scheme.

The State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, made the promise at the passing out ceremony of the 2012 Batch 'B' Corps embers deployed to Ondo State, held at Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Square in Akure.

The Governor who was represented at the occasion by his Chief of Staff, Dr Kola Ademujimi, acknowledged with delight that the Scheme had contributed significantly towards engendering harmony, national unity and productive integration, adding that the Scheme's contribution in the educational and health sectors, particularly in the rural and disadvantaged communities in Ondo State is a clear testimony to its continued existence.

While commending the founding fathers of the Scheme for their visions, the Governor also lauded the past and present management of the Scheme for effectively directing it and sustaining the dream of the programme.

He urged the Corps Members as they are passing out into unpredictable, wide and challenging world not to see their completion of the NYSC as the end of their service to the nation, but to see the national service as a continuum.

According to him, participation in the NYSC programme is only a stage in the life of responsible and patriotic citizens, which opens doors to fresh opportunities and challenges, urging them therefore, to take advantage of such initiatives as NDE/Central Bank Entrepreneurship Development Programme, the training acquired from NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship programme, WAP and NYSC Foundation and set up a small business for themselves instead of waiting for uncertain white collar job.

He equally advised them to shun violence, drug addiction, cultism, prostitution, thuggery, armed robbery and fraud-vices which can only compromise their future.

The acting chairman, Ondo State Governing Board of NYSC, Prince Ade Okiki, told the Corps Members at the occasion that their disengagement from service was the beginning of the call for greater responsibility in the nearest future, urging them to see the task of nation's building as a continuous process.

In his address to the Corps Members, the State Co-ordinator of NYSC in Ondo State, MrIsiaka Kuoye, disclosed that a total of nineteen (19) corps members who have been found wanting in one way or the other would have their service extended ranging from 30 days and above while thirteen (13) corps members would repeat the service year for outright absconding.

The State NYSC Co-ordinator noted that two (2) corps members, a male and a female died of ill-health during the year in the state.

In appreciation of the beautiful and exceptional performances of some corps members who carried out tangible community development projects across the state, Five (5) were given honours award, while another Five (5) were given certificate of commendation.

Ondo State Government can really do things to change things going there in the state. I believe the governor can do that.
