Asamoah Gyan netted a brace as 10-man Ghana recorded a 3-1 win over Sudan in Khartoum in a 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifier on Friday night.
.
The Al Ain striker also broke Abedi Pele's all-time scoring record for the Black Stars, taking his national team tally to 34 goals. AC Milan ace Sulley Muntari added the third on 83 minutes from a corner-kick.
.
Gyan opened the scoring when he tucked in from close range after Albert Adomah had missed from a scoring attempt on 20 minutes.
.
But seven minutes later, the hosts drew level from the spot after defender Richard Kissi-Boateng felled a Sudanese player inside the box. The TP Mazembe player was sent off and Mudathir Al Tahir fired in expertly from 12 yards.
.
Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah responded to the situation and sacrificed hard-working midfielder Mubarak Wakaso for Samuel Inkoom.
.
The Black Stars held their own and, against the run of play, Gyan applied a blistering header to Afful's inviting cross from the left wing. Sudan goalkeeper El Mahgoub was completely beaten by Gyan's effort from six yards.
.
Appiah shuffled his cards again and tightened his midfield by introducing Udinese's Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, who replaced striker Richmond Boakye-Yiadom. Mamelodi Sundowns-bound centre- back Rashid Sumaila also took the place of winger Albert Adomah.
.
Seven minutes from time, Muntari's corner zoomed into the net with El Mahgoub having no chance at all.
.
Ghana have now jumped to the summit of the table with nine points, two more than leaders Zambia, who host Lesotho in Ndola on Saturday.
