The Action Congress of Nigeria, Lagos State chapter, and Lagos State Deputy Governor Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, have commiserated with the National Leader of the ACN, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, over the death of his mother, Alhaja Abibat Mogaji.

Mogaji, the President-General of the Association of Market Men and Women in Nigeria, died last Saturday at the age of 96.

ACN, in a statement on Monday by its Lagos Publicity Secretary, Joe Igbokwe, said the party, while commiserating with Tinubu over the irreparable loss, found consolation in the fact that his mother lived a long, fruitful and result-oriented life while on earth.

The party said Mogaji lived a worthy life of service to the nation and humanity, stressing that she remained a national icon through her activism in defence of the common people.

It urged Tinubu to continue to uphold the tenets of social justice, good governance, rule of law and equity as a tribute to his mother.

The party said, "We received the news of the passing away of Mama with sadness yet with  satisfaction born out of the long and satisfactory role she played in her life to promote the cause of justice and democracy.

"While we mourn Mama, we feel satisfied that her devotion to the promotion of the ideals of justice, especially as it relates to the interests of market women and the masses remains a worthy testimony to the fulfilled life she led while alive."

On her part, Orelope-Adefulire said the death of Mogaji marked the end of another chapter in the history of transformational women.

In a statement by her Special Assistant on Media, Tunde Abatan, the deputy governor, who spoke on behalf of women groups noted that women groups would always remember the roles, activities and dedication of the late market leader in giving voice to the women

Orelope-Adefulire also praised her effort in making the market women and association a vibrant trade organisation that had become recognised by government at all levels as active players in the economic affairs of Lagos State and Nigeria in general.

"We give Glory to God for her life, the lives she touched, the positive roles she played among women and market groups as well as her kindness to the poor and commitment to women empowerment," she said.
