Anzhi Join Mikel Race

Big-spending Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala have joined the race for Chelsea ace Mikel Obi.

Anzhi, who parade Cameroon superstar Samuel Eto'o Fils,according to mtnfootball have kept close tabs on Mikel for some time now.

A top source who is part of the negotiations to take Mikel to Russia told MTNFootball.com: "Anzhi have come back for Mikel. They have made the player an offer and he in turn has asked for an improvement.

That is the latest on the Mikel situation."

Galatasaray have been in pole position to land Mikel after they agreed personal terms with him, but they have 13 foreigners on their books and would need to get rid of four of these players to accommodate the Nigeria star.

Another Turkish club Trabzonspor have however denied interest in the Chelsea midfield star.

Trabzonspor boss Ibrahim said there was no iota of truth in the news as they have not made such contact or pronouncement.

"There is no such initiative. No contact of such and the report is unfounded," the Trabzonspor boss said.

Meanwhile Mikel will prefer a move to French Lique 1 side,Monaco,according to a usually reliable Italian journalist, Alfredo Pedula who is an expert in players transfer.Pedula reported on his website Mikel has opted to be a part of the Monaco revolution and a price of 16 million euros could be agreed between Chelsea and the French club.

Mikel will however have to battle the new recruit from Lyon,Jeremy Toulalan for the defensive midfield position and French sports website,Le 10 Sport says the Nigerian may be recruited as a back-up for Toulalan.
