We ‘ll Look Into INEC’s Request For Electoral Act Amendment – Ekweremadu

CHAIRMAN, Senate Committee on Constitution Review and Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, yesterday, declared that the committee would look at the requests by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, seeking more powers to perform its duties in an holistic manner.

Speaking with Vanguard yesterday, Senator Ekweremadu disclosed that the committee would look at the issues before the end of the year, when the Senate resumes from its vacation.

He said: "The only issue they raised, which is the time frame within which to complete the election, is in the Electoral Act.
.
"We will consider the issue of time frame to conclude the election petitions. We are of the view that what we have in the present law is good enough, that essentially we shall try as much as possible to adapt to the changes.
