Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina is to be loaned out to Serie A side Napoli next season where he'll be reunited with former Reds coach Rafael Benitez, the Liverpool Echo reported on Friday.

The 30-year-old Spaniard has spent eight years at Anfield but the arrival of Simon Mignolet from Sunderland has meant he has lost his first-choice status.

Reina had been scheduled to fly to Australia this weekend to link up with the Liverpool squad for the second leg of their pre-season tour.

Instead he's expected to head for Italy to undergo a medical and complete his switch to last season's Serie A runners-up.

Reina arrived at Anfield from Villarreal in 2005 and helped Liverpool clinch the Uefa Super Cup and the FA Cup in his first season.

Liverpool has done the right thing cos the guy flopped a bit last season. They should go for a younger goalkeeper once and for all.
