Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has said he would like to resign immediately but fears the country would descend into chaos if he did so.

In his first interview since anti-government protests began, he told ABC News he was "fed up" with power.

But he warned that the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood party would fill any power vacuum if he stepped down.

In the early hours of Monday, January 24, 2011, 36-year-old Olukemi Gbelee left her residence at 56, Candos Road, Baruwa, Ipaja, Lagos State in a determined bid to perform a civic responsibility. Like many other Lagosians, who had formed the habit of leaving their homes at dawn for voter registration centres in order to pick tally numbers, she left her Ipaja, Lagos residence at about 4:00am and headed for the registration centre in her neighbourhood.

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would on Monday commence its 2011 presidential campaigns with zonal rallies.



The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Prof Rufai Ahmed Alkali, in a statement in Abuja said the first of such rallies would take place on Monday in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, for the North Central Zone.

The rally tagged, 'Join the transformation team,' according to Alkalim, would have President Goodluck Jonathan as special guest of honour while Vice President Namadi Sambo would be guest of honour.

Otunba Gbenga Daniel

Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel yesterday vowed to fight to the finish over his list of candidates for the April elections. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo's faction in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Daniel's are locked in a bitter feud for supremacy. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected the Daniel faction's list of candidates, following a court order secured by the Obasanjo faction. Daniel's choice for governor is Gboyega Isiaka. The Obasanjo faction has former Military Administrator Gen. Tunji Olurin.
