The Edo State Police Command on Thursday said it had spread its dragnet in the search for three female primary school teachers abducted by suspected kidnappers in the state.

The teachers, whose names were given as Mrs. Patience Osadolor, Momodu Aisha and Mrs. Patience Oroghene, were reportedly abducted by gunmen in the premises of Orogbua Primary School, along Upper Ekenwan Road.

The gunmen reportedly fire shots into the air and seized the teachers during school hours. A parent, who had come to check on his child during the time, was said to have been hit by a stray bullet.

Our correspondent, who visited the school reports that there was uneasy calm in the school on Thursday. The school authorities refused to comment on the incident.

Spokesman for the Edo police command, Moses Eguavoen, told our correspondent on the telephone that investigation had commenced. He called on members of the public to assist with information that could help the police in the mission to rescue the teachers.

"Investigation has commenced and we are asking members of the public to assist with useful information that will lead to the arrest of the abductors," he said.
