Elderson Echiejile Targets Win Against S/Africa

Super Eagles defender, Elderson Echiejile, has revealed that he is returning to the warm city of Durban ahead of today's international friendly against the Bafana Bafana with a fond memory of his first goal for the Super Eagles.

The SC Braga FC of Portugal defender also admitted that he will never forget the beautiful Moses Mabhida Stadium as well as the Zulu dance that set the tone for Nigeria to dispatch Eagles of Mali 4-1 in the semi-final of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The former Stade Rennes defender is also optimistic of winning the encounter after the Super Eagles lost 2-1 to South Africa in the 2004 edition of the Mandela Challenge.

"I'm optimistic of Nigeria winning and I can't wait for the clash," he told Complete Sports in a chat. In February, Echiejile dived low to meet a cross from Chelsea winger Victor Moses for the opening goal against Mali on the way to a convincing win for the Super Eagles.

"It was a great experience to score this goal as I have longed to score for my country since I made my debut four years ago," said the former U-17 and U 20 international.

"The two other things that have stood out for me on that day was the beauty of the 85,000-capacity Moses Mabhida Stadium, specially built to stage the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and the energetic Zulu dance before the game against fellow West Africans Mali."
