Global Water Partnership (GWP) and the International River Foundation (IRF) offers Memorial Scholarships for Women candidates from developing countries. This scholarship is administered by the International water Centre. The scholarship is provided to undertake Masters in the field of Integrated Water Management at University of Queensland. To be eligible to apply for the scholarship, applicants must have at least five years of experience in the water sector managing Integrated Water Resource Management projects. Applicants must be a female, citizen of one of the GWP 84 partner countries. The application deadline is 13th September 2013.

Eligibility: To be eligible to apply for the scholarship you need to:

-Be a female, a citizen of one of the GWP 84 partner countries (note that affiliation to the GWP is not required, you only need to be a citizen of one of these countries)

-Have at least five years of experience in the water sector managing Integrated Water Resource Management projects

-Apply for admission at the IWC Master of Integrated Water Management (MIWM) program as an international student and meet the entry requirements:

-A completed undergraduate degree in a related field of study from an internationally-recognized institution.

-English language proficiency, as demonstrated by an officially recognized test of English language proficiency

Scholarship Description: Applications for the Global Water Partnership – Ken Thiess Memorial Scholarship is now open (until 13 September 2013) to female candidates from developing countries. The scholarship will fund study and living expenses to undertake the IWC Master of Integrated Water Management commencing in 2014 in Australia.  The aim of this scholarship is to build capacity in female leadership in Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) and through doing so, to improve the implementation of IWRM in the home nation of the scholar. The scholarship is to support the tuition fees and living expenses of a female candidate from a developing country to come to Australia and study the IWC Master of Integrated Water Management commencing in 2014. This scholarship is administered by IWC and funded through the support of two generous donors: the Global Water Partnership (GWP) and the International River Foundation (IRF) in partnership with the Thiess Family Trust who provided funds in memory of their son, Ken Thiess, who died performing engineering duties on the construction of the Snowy Mountains Scheme.

Duration of award(s): The scholarship will fund study and living expenses to undertake the IWC Master of Integrated Water Management commencing in 2014 in Australia.

What does it cover? The scholarship is valued at approximately AU$ 83,368* which includes:

-Full-tuition fees for the IWC Master of Integrated Water Management program commencing in 2014 (valued at AU$ 48,240 over 18 months);

-Cost of student visa for a single student (valued at AU$ 500)

-One return flight between country of origin and Brisbane, Australia to a maximum cost of AU$ 3,000;

-Overseas Student Health Cover for 18 months (valued at AU$ 778 for 18 months);

-Living expenses stipend (valued at EUR 20,000 or AU$ ~$29,000* for 18 months), payable in equal monthly installments in Australian dollars

-Attendance at the 17th International Riversymposium conference in 2014 (valued at AU$ 1,850).

-Please note that the precise Australian dollar value of the EUR20,000 living expenses component may vary from the figure quoted due to exchange rate fluctuations.

-The scholarship only covers the costs described above for a single student (without any dependents). The scholarship does not cover costs associated with bringing family members to Australia.

-The living expenses stipend provides EUR 20,000 (payable in Australian dollars) which may not cover the full living costs

Selection criteria: Eligible scholarship applicants will be assessed on a competitive basis according to the following selection criteria:

-Academic record: An excellent academic record and a likelihood of success in further study.

-Professional record: Relevant employment experience, achievements, membership of professional bodies and professional references.

-Commitment to the whole-of-water cycle, integrated and interdisciplinary approaches to water management.

-Leadership qualities including collaboration and team work, flexibility, initiative, communication skills, integrity and vision through professional, educational, community and other achievements.

-Potential outcomes: the likelihood of positive impacts on the individual and the water sector from participating in the MIWM program.
