Edwin Okon Names Forty For Japan

Super Falcons caretaker coach, Edwin Okon has called up 40 players to report to camp ahead of the two international friendly matches against the Japan next month.

Okon was last week assigned the head job of the Super Falcons on an interim basis.

The former Falconets coach named a mixture of the young, promising and the hard-as-nail veterans for the crucial games coming up on September 22 and 26.

The six-time African champions failed to fly at the last African Women's Championship (AWC) in Equatorial Guinea finishing in fourth place. The side had previously failed to qualify for the 2011 All Africa Games as well as the 2012 London Olympic Games.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has resolved that new hands must be brought on board to restore the Falcons to their past glory and the Rivers Angels helmsman has been temporarily charged with the task of forging a new dawn.

The likes of Stella Mbachu, Ebere Orji, Esther Sunday, Blessing Edoho, Glory Iroka, Osinachi Ohale and Evelyn Nwabuoku return but there are also promising birds like Asisat Oshoala, Ngozi Okobi, Prudent Ugoh and Yetunde Aluko.

All invited players are expected to arrive in Abuja on Tuesday, August 27.
