Kogi State governor, Idris Wada, has assured the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, and the National Association of Kogi State Students, NAKOSS, that his administration will not increase school fees in tertiary institutions in the state.

Governor Wada, who said this while receiving the national president of NANS and the newly elected executive members of NAKOSS, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office, said there was no plan to increase school fees by his administration.

Wada said when he came on board; education was defined as a top priority in the transformation agenda of his administration, pledging that the state government will continue to accord the education sector topmost priority for the overall development of the state.

He said the rumour making the rounds that the government was planning to increase fees, emanated from the report of the visitation panel to all state-owned tertiary institutions on how best to run them, noting that such plan never exists.

The governor commended NANS for the investigation carried out on the present administration's strides in the various state-owned tertiary institutions in the last 17 months, noting that this will be the beginning of new things to come.

"I will never be a party to bringing hardship to Nigerian students. And I will never be a party to bringing any untold hardship to Kogi State students either," the governor assured.

He, however, admonished the students to be focused, disciplined and not to be distracted in their pursuit of their ultimate goals, pledging to donate an 18-seater bus to ease the transportation problem on the campuses.
