Ivory Coast defensive midfielder Didier Zokora left the team's hotel in Abidjan on Wednesday night and was not present at their final training session on Thursday ahead of the Morocco match in the 2014 World Cup qualifying.
.
The stunning absence of the 32-year-old former Tottenham player who now plies his trade in Turkey at Trabzonspor was confirmed on Thursday evening by team coach Sabri Lamouchi, who said everybody was still wondering what happened to him and why he decided to abandon the outfit to an unknown destination.
.
"Something strange happened at our hotel on Wednesday night," Lamouchi told reporters in Abidjan. "Our captain Didier Zokora absconded from the group and we have not heard from him. He did not train with the rest of the team on Thursday.
.
"Nobody knows why and where he is. We are still investigating."
.
Other sources close to the Elephants said Zokora felt frustrated when he was stripped of the captain band and given to Didier Drogba who is joining the set up after months of absence.
.
Ivory Coast and Morocco will face off at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium on Saturday in the final game of the second round, with nothing at stake as the Ivorians are already through to the third round of the qualifying.

The whole situation is just funny to me. A player of his callibre shouldn't do a thing like this. He is highly respected in Ivory Coast!
