Ogun State police command yesterday said it has arrested a 22-year-old pastor for raping a 12-year-old girl. The suspect, identified as Imoleayo Adekoya, was said to have committed the crime last Saturday in a bushy area around his house in Shagamu area of the state.

A statement issued yesterday by the command's Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Muyiwa Adejobi, said that Adekoya waylaid the girl, who was sent to a nearby market by her mother and lured her into the bush, where he defiled her.

Adejobi further explained in the statement that when the girl couldn't return home on time, a search party was raised by the community, which later came across the girl later that day with blood all over her body.

The PPRO added that Adekoya, who is a pastor in one of the white garment churches in Shagamu, had been arrested and that he has confessed to the crime.

Adejobi added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for investigation, stressing that the suspect would be charged to court soon.

State Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, has also assured that the police would do justice in the matter.

"The police commissioner also warned those who are fond of raping women, particularly minors to stop as the command will no longer tolerate any such obnoxious act."
