There was pandemonium in the early hours of yesterday at the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, following a violent cult attack on an ND II student of the institution's Department of Business Administration, who is now receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

National Mirror gathered that while the UEFA Champions League matches were being played on Wednesday, a gang of six cultists laid ambush for their victim at the back of the department and battered him before passersby were attracted by his cry for help.

Following the attack, tension was high throughout the night and resulted in the early morning protests, leading to the closure of the two main gates of the institution and the disruption of academic and administrative activities.

Investigation revealed that the assailants were also students of the institution and that the protesting students had located their hostel and locked up their rooms.

Workers were barred from gaining access to their offices until the institution's Rector, Dr. Margaret Ladipo, was forced to address the students at the campus' stadium.

While Ladipo was appealing to the students to return to their hostels, pending the investigation of the case by the management, the students refused, demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of the culprits.

They urged the management not to involve the police in the issue; "Because the culprits in the shooting of a student in June this year were later freed by the police at Sabo Police Station."

They thereby demanded that the victims should be immediately declared wanted and handed over to the students' representative council for punishment.

The rector promised that a panel would look into their demands and assured that any student indicted would face the music. She subsequently invited the students' representatives to a meeting on the issues.
