The Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lt. General Azubuike Ihejirika has restated the commitment of men and officers of the Nigerian Army to redouble efforts to flush out members of the infamous sect, Boko Haram out of the affected States in the north eastern part of the country.

Lt. General Ihejirika gave the assurance in his address to declare a three day 9TH Biennial Training Conference of the Nigerian Army Finance Corps (NAFC) in Umuahia.

Represented by the General Officer Commanding 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Enugu, Major General Adebayo Olaniyi, the Army Chief commended President Goodluck Jonathan and members of the National Assembly for their untiring support to the Nigerian Army in its determination to stamp out criminal activities throughout the country.

The COAS also commended Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State for his support to the ongoing military operation in a bid to sustain the already achieved security of lives and property in the State. "Let me sound this note of warning to miscreants and criminals including the Boko Haram sect in North East part of this country that they will not be given any breathing space by the Nigerian Army", Lt. General Ihejirika said.

While commending the NAFC for organizing the conference, the general described the Corps as the financial adviser and custodian of Nigerian Army funds. He added that efficient and prudent management of scarce resources is essential if the Nigerian Army must retain its capability to confront the numerous security challenges facing the nation.

The COAS maintained that the efforts of the NAFC have begun yielding desired results in the areas of administration of troops pay and allowances, implementation of the Nigerian Army Biometric Enrollment Exercise (NABEE) and use of SMS to alert Personnel on payments.

General Ihejirika therefore called on the NAFC and other Nigerian Army departments, formations and institutions to continuously reappraise themselves to refine their procedures and processes in order to ensure full optimization of the Army's scarce resources in support of its mission.

In his speech at the occasion, Governor Theodore Orji commended the Nigerian Army for choosing the State to play host to their 9th biennial conference. "This is a clear testimony that tranquility, security and peace have taken root in Abia State", stated the Governor.

Orji recalled the role played by the Nigerian Army through its operation, code named Operation Jubilee, in flushing criminals and kidnappers out of the State. He described security as being pivotal to national development, explaining that "If we are not secured we would not have been here today.

"Without security, we would not have achieved the legacy projects in the State. So, security is the key to development", he added.
