Contrary to insinuations in some quarters, Chairman, Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Adeyinka Mafe has clarified that he never said that public schools in the State are being neglected.     Hon. Mafe who made this clarification during an interview in Abeokuta, explained that rather, the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led-administration has been taking steps to reposition the education sector to achieve its free qualitative education programme component of the “mission to rebuild”     The lawmaker affirmed that the State government had invested heavily in providing infrastructural and instructional as well as other educational materials to aid teaching and learning in public Schools across the State, saying that all these were pointers to the commitment of the government to turn around education in the State.     According to him, the model schools being built across the State are not to the detriment of existing schools in the State, but a platform to redefine education and make public schools compete favourably with the best across the nation.     Mafe also recalled that government had paid the sum of N4bn SUBEB counterpart funds for the construction and renovation of school infrastructure, adding that the over 2,000 classrooms which had been renovated as well as another 200 blocks of classrooms constructed and provided with furniture in schools across the State were commendable measures to put the existing schools in shape.     “It is not correct that government is building model schools and thereby abandoning its responsibility of renovating the existing schools, rather this government is a serious government which thought it wise to build model schools, while we are not abandoning what we met but we are not committing all our resources into them because some of these schools belong to the Missionaries which will be returned on completion of the model schools” the lawmaker explained.     He equally implored management team of tertiary institutions across the State to be more efficient and proactive in the running their schools in line with the existing rules guiding their operations, disclosing that more monitoring visits would be paid to the schools in the coming year.
