Cross River State - Calabar South Red Cross Division Innaugurates Success Detachment

The Nigeria Red Cross Division of Calabar South Local Government Area has inaugurated its success Detachment in Calabar.

Performing the ceremony recently held at the State office of Nigeria Red Cross at No.1 Garden Street, Calabar, the Chairman of the occasion Hon. Barr. Tony Mike Akpan commended the Nigeria Red Cross Calabar South Division for deeming it necessary to inaugurate the detachments.

In his remarks, one of the dignitaries at the ceremony Mr Christopher Okon stated that the success Detachment was a unit of the Nigeria Red Cross in Calabar South and was responsible for the distribution of insecticide treated nets sponsored by the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) in collaboration with the Department of Roll Back Malaria in 2012.

Mr. Okon noted that since its inauguration in 30th June 2012, the detachment has been carrying out humanitarian services such as prison sanitation and sanitation of the General Hospital, Calabar.

Others are organizing sensitization seminars on HIV/AIDS for Secondary Schools in Calabar South as well as the distribution of relieve materials to Pope John Paul II Old People's Home also in Calabar.

Present at the occasion were the Chairman Calabar South Division of the Red Cross Hon. Charles Kutman, the coordinator of the Mother's Club Mrs. Hajiya Abubaka , NYSC Corp Member and Deputy Division Youth Co-coordinator Mrs. Glory Umoh.

High point of the ceremony was the induction of new member to the detachment.
